Introducing the Meet the Spice Blend Series

Updated: May 24, 2023

Three years ago, like many people, I lost my job when Covid-related shutdowns stretched from weeks into months with no end in sight. Determined to find something I could do from home, I looked around my kitchen, and my spice rack caught my eye. Among the jars of cumin seed and peppercorns were about a dozen spice blends I had made myself and which had become staples in my own home cooking. That's it, I thought. And A Bite of Good spice blends were born.

I applied for a Cottage Food license with my local health department and began selling at my local farmers market. Twelve spice blends turned into twenty turned into... wait for it... forty-six. That's right. Forty-six. And the operation that started in my home kitchen now happens out of a commercial kitchen facility. It's been a wild three years.

But as much as I love the creative process, I also recognize that sometimes having too many choices can just feel overwhelming. And overwhelmed is decidedly NOT what I want you to feel when you look at my spice blends. On the contrary, I want you to feel inspired and excited to cook. I want you to WANT to get into your own kitchen and whip up something delicious, and I want to be a little bitty part of that.

So, I've decided to embark on a new project here on the Blog that I'm calling the Meet the Spice Blend Series, where I'll be sharing the inspiration for, back stories of, and uses for my ever-expanding collection of small batch, handcrafted spice blends. Look for new posts every week (maybe even twice weekly), and be sure to subscribe so you don't miss a single one.

Cheers, y'all, and happy cooking!!

Love, your "spice girl,"

Laurel
