Relajo Hot Honey
Updated: Jul 24
Are you a sweet and spicy fan? If the answer is yes, then boy do I have a fun little recipe for you! It's sweet. It's spicy. It's smoky. And it's way more complex than a 5-minute recipe has any right to be thanks to my Five-Chile Relajo, which is packed with pasilla chiles, guajillo chiles, arbol chiles, California chiles, New Mexico chiles, star anise, cinnamon, bay leaf, coriander, pepitas, sesame seeds, achiote, oregano, cumin and cocoa powder.
You can drizzle it on pizza, fried chicken, a peanut butter and banana sandwich, grilled stone fruit, vanilla ice cream.... basically anywhere you want a sweet and spicy kick of flavor. The possibilities are truly endless!
Relajo Hot Honey
Makes 1 cup (8 fluid ounces)
Ingredients:
1 cup honey (I like the flavor of clover honey, but use whatever type you like best)
2 teaspoons Five-Chile Relajo
Directions:
Stir together honey and Five-Chile Relajo in a small saucepan. Bring just to a simmer over medium-low, and then remove from heat. Do not allow to boil or simmer too long or you'll end up with hard-as-rock honey. Allow to cool completely and then transfer to a sterile glass jar. Store at room temperature and use anywhere you want a sweet and spicy kick of flavor.
