This recipe is a perfect excuse to pull out that air fryer that's been collecting dust in the back of your kitchen cabinet, although a conventional oven works fine too (it'll just take much longer). The key is in your choice of apples. Crisp varieties like Honeycrisp, Pink Lady, or Granny Smith are best. Stay away from softer varieties like Red Delicious or Golden Delicious, as they just don't get as crisp.
Let's get cooking, shall we?
Sugar & Spice Apple Chips
Ingredients:
2 large crisp apples
2 teaspoons Sugar & Spice
Directions:
Slice apples at thin as possible, preferably about 1/8" thick. Place apple slices in a medium mixing bowl and toss with Sugar & Spice to coat.
If Using an Air Fryer: Preheat air fryer to 350F. Working in batches, arrange apple slices in a single layer in air fryer basket. Air fry for 12 minutes, flipping the slices over halfway through. Repeat with remaining apple slices.
If Using an Oven: Preheat oven to 200F. Place a metal rack inside of a rimmed baking sheet. Arrange apple slices on metal rack. Bake for 75-90 minutes. Flip the apple slices over and continue baking for another 60-90 minutes, until apple slices are dried out but still pliable. (They will crisp up as they cool.)
Allow apple chips to cool completely before transferring to an airtight container for storage for up to a week.
